Basic Clothing Rules
When concern about clothing becomes secondary, we can concentrate
better on relationships and positions within a portrait, rather than
having to work around a color that does not blend, or an attention-grabbing
pattern. A portrait is an investment for a lifetime. Take time to
plan, and consider our following recommendations.
We recommend:
- Long sleeves
- Solid colors
- One tone of color (all light, or all dark, or all medium tones)
- Consistency of dress (all casual or all formal)
We do not recommend:
- Short sleeves or no sleeves, which may reveal weight and age.
- Patterns that may make you look larger or not match one another.
Patterns also go in and out of style more quickly.
- Staying within the same tone of color from head to toe helps
to slender a body. Wearing light on the top and dark on the bottom
only draws attention to your waist.
- Staying within the same family of colors is also important, such
as earth tones (brown, black, green, or burgundy) or cool tones
(white, blues, grays).
- Mixing formal wear with casual. If Dad wears a suit and Junior
wears a T-shirt, the dress may reflect their personalities, but
the portrait will look as though no planning took place.
We welcome you to come in and discuss with our staff all of your
options and backgrounds, as you consider bringing the lifetime memory
of a portrait into your home. |
